What is ROeID?

ROeID is Romania’s official electronic identity, developed by the Authority for the Digitalisation of Romania (ADR). It gives a person one digital identity to reach public and private online services through a mobile application, replacing the many separate usernames and passwords citizens once used across Romanian state websites. An ROeID account can also be used for identity validation on government platforms across the EU member states.

To set up ROeID, a person enrols in the app by photographing their identity card and completing a short liveness check, a selfie and a brief video where they move their head as prompted. Once approved, they authenticate with the ROeID app to prove who they are. On success, the scheme confirms the identity linked to that account and can return verified details such as name and date of birth. Where the person holds a Romanian electronic ID card, the app can also support digital signing by tapping the card to an NFC phone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I verify an ROeID identity?

The person authenticates with the ROeID mobile app, which they set up by verifying their Romanian identity card and completing a liveness check. The scheme confirms the identity linked to that account and returns verified details such as name and date of birth to your service.

What data does ROeID return?

On a successful authentication the scheme can return the person’s verified identity details, such as name and date of birth. Enrolment involves verifying a Romanian identity document, so the person proves identity through their existing ROeID account rather than a fresh document upload at each check.

Is ROeID an official identity scheme?

Yes. ROeID is Romania’s official electronic identity, developed by the Authority for the Digitalisation of Romania, and an ROeID account can also be used for identity validation on government platforms across the EU.

How does ROeID verification work with Zenoo?

You can activate this connector with your own account. Zenoo’s AI builds the integration, typically within a day. The person then authenticates with ROeID and Zenoo returns a verified result with a full audit trail.
