ConnectID

Australia

ConnectID is an Australian digital identity network operated by Australian Payments Plus (AP+), the organisation behind payment systems such as BPAY, Eftpos, and the New Payments Platform. It is accredited under the Australian Government's Trusted Digital Identity Framework. Rather than holding identity data itself, ConnectID acts as an exchange between businesses that need to verify someone and the trusted institutions, such as major banks, that already hold that person's verified details.

What is ConnectID?

ConnectID is an Australian digital identity network operated by Australian Payments Plus (AP+), the organisation behind payment systems such as BPAY, Eftpos, and the New Payments Platform. It is accredited under the Australian Government's Trusted Digital Identity Framework. Rather than holding identity data itself, ConnectID acts as an exchange between businesses that need to verify someone and the trusted institutions, such as major banks, that already hold that person's verified details.

When a person verifies with ConnectID, they choose an identity provider they already have a relationship with, for example their bank, and log in there. The identity provider confirms the requested details and, with the person's consent, shares only the fields the business asked for. ConnectID does not see or store the personal information that passes between the two organisations.

Participating identity providers include major Australian banks, with further banks and organisations joining the network. It is not a compulsory or government-issued identity, but a private network built to meet government accreditation standards.

The customer selects an identity provider they already use, such as their bank, and logs in there to start the verification.

Provider confirms and shares data on consent

The identity provider verifies the requested details and, with the person's consent, returns only the fields your service asked for through the ConnectID exchange.

Frequently asked questions

How do I verify a ConnectID identity?

Does ConnectID store personal data?

No. ConnectID acts as an exchange between the business requesting verification and the identity provider confirming it. It does not see or store the personal information that passes between the two organisations.

Who operates ConnectID?

ConnectID is operated by Australian Payments Plus (AP+), the organisation behind payment systems including BPAY, Eftpos, and the New Payments Platform. It is accredited under the Australian Government's Trusted Digital Identity Framework.

How does ConnectID verification work with Zenoo?

It runs as a pre-built connector. The person authenticates with their chosen identity provider and consents to share their data, and Zenoo returns a verified result with a full audit record.
