What is Bank iD?

Bank iD is the Czech Republic's bank-backed electronic identity scheme, operated by BankID s.r.o., a company owned by the country's major banks. Launched in 2021, it lets people prove their identity online using the same login credentials they already use for internet and mobile banking. It is recognised for access to e-government services as well as private-sector logins, and is one of the most widely used digital identity methods in the country.

Verification works by having the person choose their bank and log in with their usual banking credentials. The banking credentials themselves are never shared with your service. Instead, after the person consents, the bank returns verified identity attributes such as name, date of birth, and address. This makes each bank a trusted identity provider that stands behind the data it releases.

The data returned depends on the scopes requested and the person's consent. Available attributes can include name, date of birth, nationality, national identification number, email, phone, ID card details, and AML-related information, all drawn from records the bank already holds and keeps current.

How verification works

Person selects their bank and logs in

The customer chooses their bank and authenticates with the same credentials they use for internet or mobile banking. The banking credentials are never shared with your service.

Verified attributes returned on consent

After the person consents, the bank releases verified identity attributes such as name, date of birth, nationality, and address for the scopes you requested.
